In 1995, the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (FEPA), now Federal Ministry of Environment (FMEnv) actualized one of its action plans in pursuance of its mandate as stipulated in Decree 58 0f 1988 (Section 5) on linkage programmes in tertiary institutions. It entered into agreement with the Federal University of Technology, Minna, to establish the “National Climate Change Centre”. However, in 2003, the university approved the Statute which formalized the Centre with the name “Centre for Climate Change and Freshwater Resources (CCCFR)”. This original Agreement has been reviewed to include current issues on climate change as well as strengthen the Centre as a Linkage Centre to the Federal Ministry of Environment. |
