ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE OF THE CENTRE

The CDRM&DS is directly under the office of the Vice Chancellor. It is headed by a Director who is assisted by a Deputy Director. The Centre is structured into four units for ease of administration and coordination. These are the administrative, training and outreach, research and development and Information, policy advocacy and communication units.

i.  Administrative Unit
The Director and his Deputy administer and coordinate the overall activities of the Centre. Currently, the Centre has a total of 14 staff consisting of the Director, Deputy Director, three Unit Coordinators, five Research Assistants, one Administrative Assistant, one Computer Operator and two Clerical Officers.

The Unit performs the following functions.

  1. Undertakes secretarial duties,
  2. Managing records and other secretariat documents.
  3. Handling in-coming and out-going mails
  4. The Unit performs any other role assigned by the Center.

ii. Training and Outreach Unit

This unit is primarily concerned with manpower training on Disaster Management and Risk Reduction at the Post graduate level. Its activities include the following.

  1. Coordination of Professionals Masters and PGD Programmes of the Centre.
  2. Curriculum Development and Review.
  3. Organization and Coordination of Field trips for students
  4. Organization of Disaster drills and demonstration exercises


iii. Research & Development Unit

This unit is responsible for the research and development activities of the Centre. It also facilitates and coordinates collaboration between the Centre and other development partners. The Unit performs the following functions.

  1. Co-ordination of Research and Development activities of the Centre
  2. Organization of seminars, symposia, and conferences on Center’s research output.
  3. Identification of potential Research Collaborators/ Development partners.
  4. Attends University Board of Research meetings.
  5. And any other duty assign by the Director.


iv. Information, Policy Advocacy and Communication Unit

This unit is responsible for public education and awareness raising as well as the dissemination of research output of the Centre. Its activities include:

  1. Liaises between the Center and other arms of the University.
  2. Liaises between Centre, other collaborating stakeholders and the general Public
  3. Organization and handling of public functions of the Center.
  4. Liaises between Centre and Media organizations
  5. Coordination of the activities of DRR Clubs in Secondary Schools
  6. The Unit performs any other role assigned by the Center.
