The Vice-Chancellor was born on 16th December, 1953 in Adavi-Eba of Adavi Local Goverment Area and hails from Okengwa in Okene Local Goverment Area of Kogi State, Kogi. He was educated at Federal Government College, Warri for his WASC between 1966 to 1972 and graduated from University of Ibadan with a First Class Honours in Mathematics in 1976.

He obtained his D.Phil from University of Oxford, England in 1983. Professor Audu started his working career in the University system as Assistant Lecturer with the Department of Mathematics at the University of Ilorin in 1977 and was promoted to Lecturer II in 1983. He transferred his services to the University of Jos in 1988 as Senior Lecturer, Department of Mathematics and then became a full Professor of Mathematics in 1996.

Before his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Technology Minna, he was the Dean of Faculity of Natural Sciences and Chairman Committee of Deans and Directors at the University of Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria.
He was the Director of Academic Planning and Consultancy Services, National Mathematical Centre, Abuja from 2002 to 2003 and Visiting Professor to Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto and Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil from 2002 to 2007. He was also an External Examiner to many Universities.

Professionally, Professor Audu is a fellow of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria (FMAN) and Member, British Mathematical Colloquium (BMC), Nigerian Mathematical Society (NMS) and National Association of Mathematical Physics (NAMP). He has numerous publications in reputable journals, nationally and internationally.

Professor Audu is the 5th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University and he succeeds Professor Hamman Tukur Sa'ad, OFR, FNIA, whose term of office expired on 14th November, 2007.

He is happily married with four children.

The appointment, in a letter dated 21st November, 2007, signed by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Igwe Aja-Nwachukwu, Ph.D (JP) is for a single term of five years.
