Registrar

MALLAM MUHAMMAD DATTIJO USMAN, the Registrar, was born on 17th July, 1957 in Minna. He was educated at LEA Primary School, Kuta - 1963 to 1969, Government Secondary School, Minna - 1970 to 1974, College of Education, Sokoto - 1975 to 1978, Bayero University, Kano - 1980 to 1983 and University of Abuja - MPA 2001. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Public Policy on part-time basis.

He joined the Federal University of Technology, Minna in 1991 as Senior Assistant Registrar. He was promoted to Principal Assistant Registrar in 1993, Deputy Registrar - 1998 and Acting Registrar, 1st October, 2003 to 6th June, 2007. He was appointed substantive Registrar for the Federal University of Technology, Minna on 7th June, 2007.

Mal. M.D. Usman has worked with various organisations in the past. He was Library Assistant - 1974 to 1975 at the famous A.B.U., Zaria. The seasoned administrator and a teacher of repute rose through the career of teaching from Master III to I with the Niger State Ministry of Education, Minna from 1979 to 1987. He then transferred his services to the Federal Polytechnic, Bida where he rose from Lecturer III to Lecturer II from 1987 to 1991.

Professionally, he is a fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration, Member, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and a member of Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA). Mal. M.D. Usman is also a member of the African Communication Education (ACE) and the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM).

The new Registrar has held numerous leadership positions in his professional standing; these include Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Niger State Chapter (1995-1999), National Vice-Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (2003-2005), Head, Information, Publications and Public Relations Unit in the University. He has chaired and as well been Secretary of numerous committees within the University, which include Chairman, Editorial Board, F.U.T., Minna Quarterly Newsletter.

He has academic honours and awards to his credit, which inlcude 2nd Place Prize for the play Rakinyo during the Niger State Schools' Drama Festival - State Level Participation - 1980, 3rd Place Prize for directing the play Rakinyo (1980) and Editor's Choice Award for the Outstanding Achievement in Poetry presented by the National Library of Poetry, USA - 1997. M.D. Usman has several publications in reputable books and journals and has also attended several National Conferences and Seminars on Staff Development. He has also participated in many community-related activities. He is happily married with children.
