NIQS PAYS COURTESY VISIT ON MANAGEMENT

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Ejike said the aim of the visit was to interact with staff and students of the Department of Quantity Surveying, School of Environmental Technology (SET) and to discuss as well as proffer  solutions to challenges facing the students in particular and Quantity Surveying profession in general.

The Vice President disclosed that the programme of visitation to institutions of higher learning was an initiative of the current Council of the Institute which noticed the need to bridge the gap that exists between the practice and the academia which is not healthy for nation building.

He further noted that as the Chairman of Education and Training Committee of the Institute, they are charged with the responsibility of undertaking visits to various institutions of higher learning to see to the well being of their colleagues and students.

Dr. Ejike disclosed that one of the decisions taken by Council was to discover various organs of the Institute and institute associations for members such as academia, construction, consulting, students and public services.

He noted that with the various arms, it becomes necessary for all members to be active in their various locations.

“This is one of such initiative we have to undertake to help our members and students in institutions of higher learning and since we started this visitation a year ago, it has yielded good results because we counsel the students on the profession,” he stated.

Dr. Ejike urged all Quantity Surveying professionals to contribute their quota to national development.

He commended the University for producing quality products who are doing well outside and further praised him for making it possible for the Department to scale through accreditation process.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji, FAS, FNSBMB, said Management was delighted to receive the team and thanked them for bridging the gap.

He encouraged the Institute to sustain the visit to higher institutions which he said would motivate and boost  students morale.

“It is very important Sir, because the students will have role models,” Prof. Akanji said.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that Management has deep respect for the Quantity Surveying profession and as such their staff are used in various committee’s in the University.

Prof. Akanji also commended the Institute for including women as part of their entourage which according to him would encourage other women.

On requests made by the Institute, the VC said they would be looked into, adding that there is no problem of dearth of applicants in Quantity Surveying Department. He stated that there are adequate books and staff of the department are members of different professional bodies because it is compulsory for career progression in the University.
