Technician Association (NATA), Niger State Chapter, with the theme: “Accelerate: Building Business from Science and Technology Management and Entrepreneurship for Automobile Technician.”


The training commenced on Monday October 30, 2017 at the Entrepreneurship Centre, Main Campus. Phase one of the training dwelt on data capturing of the artisan.

In his opening address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji, FAS, FNSBMB, commended the Centre for the wonderful initiative and said that Management would do everything possible to assist the participants.
He further said, universities all over the world would loose their relevance if they did not relate with the society in line with their mandate of teaching, research and community service.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that technicians attending the programme would do better than those who did not. He thanked members of the association for honouring him as Grand Patron of the Chapter and prayed that God in His mercy would continue to give members wisdom, energy and good health in steering the affairs of the union.

Delivering his goodwill message, the Programme Director, Central Bank of Nigeria, North-Central Zone, Prof. Casmiar Obialom said the training is like a revolution which helps in complementing government’s effort in fighting unemployment, poverty and social vices in the society through self-reliance and self development.

He reiterated that the significance of the training cannot be over-estimated because people of all ages were involved to showcase their skills.

The Director commended the University for organising the training which would improve the level of education of artisans and technicians in the State.

In his remark, the Coordinator of the Programme, Dr. O. B. Zakariyau stated that data was collected in Minna and Abuja and their findings revealed that NATA lacks accurate data of its members nationwide.

The Coordinator pointed out that many people are withdrawing from the sector that is why, there is problem of unemployment in the country.

Dr. Zakariyau further explained that the Centre is making arrangement on how to improve artisans and technicians level of education by organising a Diploma programme which would help them study up to university level.

He promised to extend similar training programme to all the Local Government Areas in Niger State.
Commenting at the event, the Chairman of the association, Comrade Ayuba Ibrahim Oluobor thanked the Vice-Chancellor and his Management team for organising the training.

He assured Management that the knowledge acquired during the training exercise would be put into good use. He also expressed appreciation to the VC for providing a conducive environment for the training.

Giving his vote of thanks, the Dean, School of Entrepreneurship and Management Technology, Prof. Emmanuel Oni congratulated members of NATA for the great opportunity of coming to FUT, Minna for a training and urged them to make the best use of it.

He assured them that their investment in the training programme would never be a waste, but would rather be beneficial to their lives. He thanked Management for the support and cooperation in making the training exercise a success.
