programme aimed at proffering solutions to the problem of climate change and other environmental related issues.

The VC gave the assurance yesterday when he received WASCAL board members who are in the University for its Annual International Board meeting at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, Main Campus.

Prof. Bala who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Yahaya Iyaka commended WASCAL for its concerted efforts at addressing the numerous problems of climate change in the West African sub-region.

The VC maintained that the transformation of the WASCAL Master’s programme to a Ph.D programme is long over due, adding that the University Management would provide all the necessary support needed to fast-track the timely commencement of the programme.

He expressed appreciation to WASCAL for all it has done for the University and wished them a fruitful deliberation.

“We are very grateful that WASCAL considered FUT, Minna as one of the universities where its programmes are located,” he disclosed.

Speaking earlier, the Director, WASCAL, Prof. Appolonia Okhimamhe said the purpose of the visit was to intimate the Vice-Chancellor that WASCAL board members are in the institution for its annual meeting while disclosing that the main issue for the meeting was for members to deliberate on the possibility of transforming the existing WASCAL Master’s programme to a Ph.D programme.

Prof. Okhimamhe stated that the proposed Ph.D programme would be sponsored by WASCAL, noting that the proposed name of the Ph.D programme would be in tandem with the overall theme of WASCAL scope.

The Director thanked the University Management for the support and cooperation given to WASCAL.
