FUTMINNA DONATES MOBILE LAB TO SCHOOL

Ibadan, Oyo State.

The presentation ceremony took place on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at the School’s Chemistry Laboratory.

Speaking before presenting the equipment on behalf of the University, the Inventor of the project, Engr. Sadiq Suis Lawal said the donation was part of the University’s quest to promote the teaching of science subjects in the school as well as to encourage more students to enroll for science oriented courses after their graduation from high school.

Engr. Lawal stated that the gesture was also in furtherance of the University’s mandates of research and community service towards addressing societal problems.

The Inventor of the project said the mobile teaching laboratory would make the conduct of science practicals easy for teachers and students, adding that the era of conducting practicals only in the conventional laboratory was over because practicals can now be conducted anywhere with the equipment.

He stated that the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, is committed to the advancement of the nation through novel research which also necessitated the donation of the equipment so that future scientists would be discovered in the school through the use of the equipment.

Engr. Lawal expressed appreciation to the Rotary Club, Ibadan for identifying Apata Grammar School for the intervention while advising that all hands must be on deck to address the poor state of infrastructure across public schools in Nigeria.

Speaking before receiving the equipment on behalf of Oyo State government, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Idowu Adeosun expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Bala for finding the school worthy of the donation, adding that the State government is proud of the University for assisting the State through the equipment to produce future inventors and scientists.

Represented by the Director, Basic Education in the Ministry, Mrs. Funke Akande, he stated that FUT, Minna has further proved its prowess as a leading university in the country while noting that the equipment is first of its kind in Nigeria to simplify the teaching of science subjects.

“We are grateful to the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Abdullahi Bala for donating this equipment to us. This donation has further shown that North or South, Christian or Muslim, we are all one. We are happy with the VC for exhibiting patriotism and nationalism through this donation,” he disclosed.

The Permanent Secretary revealed that he would brief the Executive Governor of the State, Engr. Seyi Makinde about the donation, saying that the State government was willing to partner with FUT, Minna for the supply of the equipment across secondary schools in the State.

Mr. Idowu also thanked Rotary Club, Ibadan for being at the forefront of serving humanity through its numerous interventional programmes while stating that the State would continue to partner with them in all their programmes.

In her remarks, the Principal of the School, Mrs. Esther Ekundayo thanked the University for the donation, adding that the University has succeeded in addressing one of the key challenges facing the teaching of science subjects in the school through the donation of the multi-functional equipment.

The Principal noted that the donation is special to the School because it is coming from far away Niger State and commended the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Bala for donating the equipment to them.

She commended the Rotary Club, Ibadan for facilitating donation of the equipment to the school while stating that the school would make judicious use of it.

Speaking earlier, the President, Rotary Club, Ibadan, Elebu Metropolis, Rotn. Dr. Adewumi Idowu said the project is one of the mandates of Rotary Club towards putting smile on the face of the people, adding that Rotary Club all over the world is committed to combating hunger, providing education support and promoting peace.

The President thanked the VC, Prof. Bala for approving the donation of the equipment without any form of primordial sentiments while noting that posterity would never forget him for coming to the aid of the School.

The donation to the school was facilitated by the Rotary Club, Ibadan-Elebu Metropolis, District 9125, Nigeria.
