ENTREPRENEURSHIP CENTRE TRAINS 17 STUDENTS

The brief event took place on Friday, August 2, 2019 at the Entrepreneurship Centre, Main Campus.

Speaking during the brief ceremony, the Director, Entrepreneurship Centre, Engr. Prof. Zinash Osunde said the training is a very special one and a software training where the trainers are students.

She recalled that when she was first appointed as Director of the Centre, while looking at the facilities available, it was noticed that the 50 computers available in the hall had not been used for two years, and were not connected to power, adding that after brainstorming with some specialists in computer, it was decided that the computers be used to train student and staff in some software.

Prof. Osunde said the training which lasted for four weeks had 17 participants, with four different software; solid works, revit, Auto card and blender, which she said are very essential for engineering and environmental technology students. She disclosed that, there is also a plan to start a skill acquisition training at the Centre during the long holiday.

She said the aim is to be trained in turn train others as entrepreneurship is not all about making money but imparting knowledge. She appreciated the VC and Management team for their support.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, congratulated the students and said that everyone is aware that the University is a university of technology and the essence of establishing the University is to give effect to the nations desire for self-sufficiency especially in science and technology and as part of the objectives of the University is to train students for both professional and academic purpose, to develop individuals with mature mind so that they can apply critical thinking in the utilisation of technology, improvement of the technology and creation of new technologies.

The VC said, for the University to be able to achieve some of these laudable aims and objectives, it is important to empower the students in a manner that they are able to do these things.

“The world is a global village and things are changing at a very rapid rate, the skills imparted yesterday may not necessarily be adequate for the challenges of today,” he said. He added that, it is the duty of the University to give additional skills beyond what is given in the classroom to enhance their performance but most especially improve on their employability because the employment opportunities out there are limited, so it means FUTMinna has the responsibility of ensuring that the students are given skills to make them more competitive.

He appreciated the Director and the team for coming up with the idea.
