VC’S CUP 2019 - SECURITY ARE CHAMPIONS AGAIN . VC WANTS FEMALE PARTICIPATION NEXT YEAR . SIPET BEAT REGISTRY 3-1 FOR BRONZE

With two goals, one in each half, the University Security Services Division (USSD) football team have retained their position as champions of the Vice-Chancellor’s Football Cup.

In the final match played at the football pitch at the University’s main campus on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, the Coach Abiodun Aliu-tutored boys got the better of the Works/Physical Planning and Development Unit team by two unreplied goals, one in each half of the game.

Even though both teams appeared evenly matched for the most part of the game, the defending champions showed more pace and bite in the attack. A faulty grip from goalkeeper Aliyu Yafu of the Works/PPDU team saw the ball slip off for on-coming Nura Mohammed to gently nod into the waiting net, 13 minutes into the first half.
The continued attack by the Security side into the opponents’ defence yielded another fruit two minutes to stoppage with a goal by Abraham Peter.

In the third place match played earlier, the School of Infrastructure, Process Engineering and Technology (SIPET) defeated the Registry team 3-1. All goals in the match came in the second half. After Dr. Femi Olugboji scored the first goal for the SIPET side, Goalkeeper Kolo Mohammed of the Registry swapped positions with left full back, Abdullahi Yunusa and got an equalizer for his side.

But the Registry lads could not sustain the tempo as Buhari Umar put the SIPET team ahead again with the second goal, while Olugboji sealed the administrators’ fate as he made it a brace, just before the final whistle.

In his remarks during the closing ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Bala disclosed that he was impressed by the quality of the game and commended the Chairman of the University Sports Committee for organising the competition, which he described as wonderful.

Prof. Bala expressed the hope that next year, the scope of the competition will be expanded to include female participation and other games.

He congratulated the officials and players of the participating teams and thanked everybody that contributed to the success of the competition.
