CODeL MATRICULATES PIONEER ODL STUDENTS

The Centre for Open Distance and e-Learning (CODeL) of the Federal University of Technology, Minna has matriculated its pioneer students for the 2019/2020 academic session.
The historic matriculation ceremony took place today, Thursday, October 8, 2020 at the CODeL Complex, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano.
Delivering his address at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fsssn (Walin Zazzau Suleja) congratulated the students for being the first set of students to be admitted for the institution’s Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programme.
 
“This matriculation ceremony is an epoch event because this is the first set of ODL students to be admitted by the University. It is also special because we are doing it during the era of covid-19 which demand that we must obey social distancing and the need to go online for lectures which is the main purpose for which CODeL was established.
 
Your programme is more demanding than the conventional programmes because it requires you to do a lot of assignments, constant contact with your tutors and it demand that you should make submission within specific time frame. I urge you all to pay due attention to all the laid down rules and regulations”, the VC disclosed.
 
The Vice-Chancellor stated that the University was established in 1983 by the Federal Government of Nigeria to put to effect the nation’s desire for self-sufficiency in Science and Technology.
“Our vision as a University is to be a World-Class and Nigeria’s leading University recognised for its excellence in capacity building and service delivery. In order to achieve this vision, we have as our core values integrity, excellence, resilience, diversity, inclusiveness, entrepreneurship and innovation. Consistent with these Values and Vision, the University has grown from its modest beginning into a colossus especially in the Nigerian University System. We have developed a unique brand that every member of the FUTMinna community is proud to associate with”, the University helmsman stated.
 
Equally important, Prof. Bala said the core values have guided the University in its operations over the years which has culminated in the institution being rated as the best specialized university in the country, among the top 10 universities in Nigeria, 4th university in Nigeria in terms of graduates employability index and one of the only two universities with A+ rating in the one and only institutional accreditation exercise ever conducted by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
 
The don revealed that the Centre would provide the University with a powerful and useful platform for the actualization of its vision for enhanced access to quality university education and also for its drive for increased diversity as well as internationalization of students’ enrollment.
He admonished the students to comply with all the laid down rules and regulations governing the conduct of students in the University.
The Registrar of the University, Mr. Amos Nmadu Kolo administered the matriculation oath on the 24 admitted students.
The Federal University of Technology, Minna is one of the universities granted approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to run B. Tech Computer Science programme via the ICT enabled learning model of Open and Distance Learning (ODL).
 
Other dignitaries present at the event were; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, (Academic), Prof. Yahaya Ahmed Iyaka, fcsn, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Emmanuel Emeka Udensi, fnip, the acting Bursar, Mrs. Rebecca Adi Adams, the acting University Librarian, Dr. Abubakar Mohammed Bitagi, Deans of School, Director of CODeL, Prof. Abiodun Musa Aibinu and other staff of the University.
