The Senior Customer Support Consultant of Research Professional Africa Platform, Mr. Sean Intiomale has reiterated the importance of funding in research development and called on researchers to take advantage of its platform to attract research grants to the institution. He stated this during an interactive session with the University research team yesterday with the theme: "Generating 3rd Stream Income" –Introduction to the Research Professional Africa Platform, at the Senate Chamber, Main Campus.

Mr. Intiomale noted that funding is the critical information that every researcher should source for owing to paucity of funds allocated to tertiary institutions in Nigeria for research purpose. He revealed that institutional excellence is measured by the quality of research output and that research is not a luxury but a survival, adding that in addition to teaching and service, research is imperative. He called on researchers to visit the company's website to view the 3, 500 comprehensive listing of funding opportunities across different fields.

Speaking earlier while declaring the interactive session open, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji FNSBMB, thanked the firm for coming to the University to show the institution's researchers the company's new features and how to use the platform to get grants. Prof. Akanji said the interactive session is needed in order to justify the institution's subscription on the platform and urged participants to pay utmost attention to the presentation as the feedback received from them would inform his decision on the platform at the end of the interactive session.

The VC also lauded the University Board of Research for stimulating research activities on campus and working to actualize the dream of the institution.

In his brief remark, the Chairman, University Board of Research, Prof. Hussaini Anthony Makun said the purpose of the event was to introduce FUT, Minna researchers to the platform and research grant opportunities with a view of convincing the University's Management to renew its subscription on the platform.

Prof. Makun expressed satisfaction with the turnout of researchers at the interactive session while disclosing that a staff in the University had used the platform to get travel grant to attend a conference in Holland.

The Chairman said UBR is committed to raising the bar of research development in the university vis-à-vis relating information on funding opportunities to researchers through local and international sources. He further stated that research is the bedrock of any university.
