The just retired Senior Librarian, Mr. Joel Jiya Kolo was treated to a memorable send forth by the staff of the University Library Services, to mark his last day in office after a period of over three and half decades of meritorious services.
The ceremony was held on Monday, April 24, 2017 at the System Unit, e-Library Hall, Bosso Campus.
Speaking during the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji, FNSBMB, FAS, said when he assumed duty as Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Kolo was one of the few officers he met and described him as a hard working person. He added that positive reports received by Management on him are testimonies of his character.
The Vice-Chancellor who used the opportunity to commensurate with staff of the Library over the death of the former University Librarian, Dr. Nasiru Bello said Library is the eye of the University, if the eye is not functioning well, all other parts would not function properly.
Earlier, the University Librarian, Dr. Jubril Alhassan said Mr. Kolo was a pioneer staff of the University Library and highlighted his numerous contributions to the development of the University Library Services.
He also noted that Mr. Kolo was one of the founding fathers of the Department of Library and Information Technology and commended him for the support giving to him in running the affairs of the University Library.
Dr. Alhassan urged him to enjoy life after retirement from service.
Other staff of the Library who spoke at the occasion described Mr. Kolo as a very generous and important pillar who was dedicated to the job and always making sure that all those he worked with become better people in future. They thanked him for all they had learnt from him.
Responding, Mr. Kolo, thanked the VC, University Librarian and other staff members for their co-operation during his service. He specifically thanked all the Library staff for the support he received from them throughout his service and implored them to continue with strong spirit of unity, co-operation and dedication to service.
At the end of the occasion, he was presented with a gift as a mark of honour for his contributions to the growth of the University Library.
