 NUGA Games Go For Gold Prof. Akanji Urges Team FUTMinnaFUTMinna

As the 25th edition of the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) opens in Makurdi, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji, FNSBMB, FAS, has urged Team FUT, Minna contingent at the ongoing games to work assiduously towards winning gold medals for the University.

The Vice-Chancellor stated this during an interactive session with the University contingent at the Convocation Square of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi before the opening ceremony of the biennial sporting event on Saturday, April 21, 2017.

Prof. Akanji tasked the athletes to work towards winning gold medals at the event, stating that only the best is good for the University.

The Vice-Chancellor, represented by the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University, Prof. Akin Osunde said the University Management has concluded plans to reward any athlete that would win gold medal for the institution at the games.

He congratulated all the athletes on their qualifications for the NUGA games from the zonal preliminaries and praised the hardwork, commitment and dedication that the athletes have put into their preparations.

The VC, however, warned the athletes against any act capable of tarnishing the University’s image and tasked them to be worthy ambassadors of FUT, Minna during the duration of the games.

Responding, the captain of the University delegation who is also the Students’ Union Government (SUG), Director of Sports, Comrade Ani Augustine, 400 level student of the department of Estate Management and Valuation, expressed gratitude to the University Management for funding their trip to the NUGA games despite the present economic situation in the country.

The Captain assured the Vice-Chancellor that the University contingent would return back to Minna with laurels to justify the University Management support to sports development.

The representative of the Vice-Chancellor who was also the former Chairman of the University Sports Committee later joined other Vice-Chancellors and guests at the main bowl of the University stadium for the opening ceremony held amidst pomp and utmost gaiety. The highpoint of the opening ceremony was the ceremonial march-past by all the participating Universities.
