In exercising its mandate of ensuring that programmes run across various tertiary institutions in the country are in conformity with its stipulated rules and guidelines, the National Universities Commission (NUC) Resource Assessment Team visited the University on Monday, June 27, 2016 to assess and ascertain the institution’s readiness for the smooth running of the two recently introduced academic programmes.
The programmes that went through the NUC scale of standard were Materials and Metallurgical Engineering in the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SEET) and Education Technology in the School of Technology Education (STE).
Speaking during the exit meeting with the University Management at the Council Chamber, Main Campus, the team leader, Prof. Benjamin M. Ndomi of Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola commended the University for the cooperation accorded them during the exercise that made it a huge success.
Prof. Ndomi while praising the institution for having on ground excellent physical facilities, admission and graduation requirements and enough quality staff that meet the NUC requirement, advised on the need to rearrange the philosophy, ideas, objectives and course content of the academic programmes.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji, FNSBMB, FAS,commended the team for their fair, objective and in-depth assessment of the programmes. His words: “The type of sacrifices and hard work exhibited by you even at short notice is what Nigeria needs to advance the course of development and humanity.”
The VC assured the team that the Management would look into the issues raised and do everything possible within available resources to speedily address them. He also appreciated the positive attitude and cooperation of staff during the exercise.
